Who is at risk for gestational HT? 1) First time mother to be. 2) Multiple pregnancy. 3)Women younger than 20 yrs or older than 40. 4) Women who have kidney disease. 5)Overweight and diabetic women. 6)Has had gestational HT in previous pregnancy. WHAT IS THE DANGER OF HT DURING PREGNANCY The blood supply of to the supply is reduced due to HT. This can lead to low birth weight in babies. PROBLEMS FACED BY THE MOTHER ARE: 1)Convulsions 2) Stroke 3)Liver and kidney problems 4)Blood clotting problems 5)Placental abruption 6)Premature delivery 7)A cesarean delivery HOW TO PREVENT GEST.HT Currently there is no way to prevent HT. Some contributing factors to high blood pressure can be controlled, while others cannot. Some ways to prevent are * use salt as needed for taste. * drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday. *get enough rest *exercise regularly *elevate your feet several times a day *avoid alcohol/smoking and beverages containing caffeine. to be continued---- dr nandini shete
