ABNORMAL UTERINE BLEEDING( PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS DYSFUNCTIONAL BLEEDING) AUB.
AUB is a broad term that describes irregularities in the menstrual cycle involving frequency, regularity, duration and volume of flow outside of pregnancy.
AUB occurs in abscence of recognizable pelvic pathology. It is caused due to an imbalance in the female sex hormones.
About 1/3 of women experience AUB in their life with irregularities most commonly occuring at menarche and perimenopause.
A normal menstrual cycle has a frequency of 26-35 days, lasts for 7-8 days, with a 5-80 ml blood loss. Variations in any of these parameters constitute AUB.
