GESTATIONAL DIABETES::::: means you have high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes affects 5–8% of pregnant women and is associated with hypertensive disorders, macrosomia, shoulder dystocia, increased rates of caesarean delivery and the development of maternal diabetes later in life. THIS TEST IS DONE FOR ALL PREGNANT WOMEN BETWEEN 24 TO 28 WEEKS OF PREGNANCY. Women at particularly high risk of gestational diabetes may be tested earlier. They include: 1) Gestational diabetis in previous pregnancy. 2) Multiple pregnancy. 3) Overweight women 4) Family history of diabetes. 5)Delivery of an overweight baby in previous pregnancy. IN SUCH CASES TEST IS DONE IN FIRST TRIMESTER. 2 hour 75 gm oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) is done as follows: *Fasting of 10 to 12 hours done. * In the morning blood is drawn to measure FBSL * 75gm of glucose( dissolved in water) is consumed. * Two hours later blood is tested for sugar levels. to be continued:::::::: dr nandini shete:::: gynecologist
